Nightmare From Start To Finish. Avoid Like The Plague! Got this guy to concrete my entertaining/pergola area so we could have people and families over for bbqs in our beautiful new Alfresco area but what a big mistake we made getting this guy. The concrete was poured over two different days . Not sure why because all other Concreters said they would pour the whole area in one day because it was only an area of just under 70m2. When quoting, John was told that we wanted the old paving removed and the new concrete to be the same height as the paving. This is what he quote for which he quoted extra hours for labour and $750+ for a skip. When he was given the job when he started preparing the area he decided it would be better to concrete over the top of the paving, I guess to make it easier for himself and he spoke to my wife about it. He sold the idea to her just like a used car salesman saying that’s how he would do it if it was his house and because we aren’t concretes we left it up to him.The first half that was concreted cracked the day after it was poured and all he said is that it is fine, that this happens regularly but the cracks will close up when the temperature gets cooler. Over the next few days the weather did cool down but surprise surprise the cracks were still there. When he sealed the first half I questioned the he hadn’t diluted the product with a solvent to help the sealant bond to the concrete. This is normally done on the first coat but not on the second. He then says he doesn’t to two coats that one coat is enough even though the sealant manufacturer’s application instructions recommend two. The diluted first coat to help bond and non diluted second coat. Then the second half was poured and has a totally different top texture to it. The first half was a little uneven rough looking and the second was quite a rough circular texture. Then it was sealed with just one coat of sealant again before cutting the concrete for expansion cuts and then he was to busy to do the cuts he got a contractor to do the cutting. Because it had been sealed the day before, when the concrete was cut the dry concrete dust went all over the sealed concrete and made the sealed concrete a different colour to the other half.(please see photos). It doesn’t wash off either! One big nightmare! We have other problems with this job but too hard to explain these. When the job was completed and he wanted the outstanding money in which I had already paid $3000, which if I hadn’t paid it, there would have been no way I would have let him back to finish the second half and i was quoted just under $2000 to remove his cracked concrete, he didn’t want to reduce his price for the reduced labour or the skip. When I threatened I would take him to VCAT he reduced the money owed by the skip. I will be still taking him to VCAT because the job wasn’t done properly. I

"This guy is a crook, quotes cheaply and than asks for more money after the job has started. Refuses to supply invoice for money received. Be aware!!"
