Hired the 6 berth Houseboat for a wonderful Xmas with my family but it turned out to be the holiday from hell. The houseboat had no electricity for the lights or tv, the tinny we got to go with the houseboat was full of water and the motor wouldn't start. The shower was full of mould! The carpet in the lounge was soaked because the ceiling leaked in MULTIPLE places. The actual lounge was stained and wet. The mattresses on the beds were filthy and stained with Pete. Also each mattress didn't fit the bed and left 6 inch gaps at the ends, which had a dirty foam off cut put in. We booked for a week but couldn't take the smell any longer after the second night and returned the houseboat. While the OWNER was driving the houseboat into the wharf he ran over something or jammed the engine somehow and made a great crunching noise. NOW for the last 3 weeks he wont reply to my messages and he's sent me a email saying that I broke his boat motor and I am going to have to pay for repairs, slipway fees and labour etc. Total crook! Not only is he not giving me a refund for my ruined family Xmas it looks like he's trying to scam the bond money. All together it cost us $2050 for the houseboat hire plus $300 for the bond. And on top of all this he is a massive RACIST, as he was taking phonecalls from customers who were Indian and when he got off the phone he started lecturing us as to how stupid Indian people are! There is SO much more that I can say about my experience with Bay River Houseboats, but I'm running out of room. Save yourself the effort and heartache!
